Sunday
On Sunday morning Mark, Travis and I linked up in Pleasanton
with our co-drivers and headed out on 580 East and then on to I-5
South to get to the Patterson Exit. After a scenic 16 mile drive
back to the park, we pulled into camp and set up our gear for the
evening and following day. |

A sense of the vertical trails in the park
|
After getting situated in camp, we set out to
explore the park. I've been to this park on three previous occasions
and I still didn't know all that much about it. Frank Raines is a
local SVRA and does not have the amenities the bigger, state-run
SVRA's have like roaming rangers and park maps. The last of which
made for my lack of knowledge of most of the trails here. |
The trails at this park are almost all very steep.
There are some fun little hillclimbs to test your nerves and your driving
ability. Maintaining forward momentum is key in these situations because
backing down is not often the best option.

If he only had a locker he'd be set!

I was adding lots of down-force on the wheel :)

Broncos in a Stable |
After doing some exploring, we let our rigs and our
rear ends have a rest break. Most of the trails we tried simply
climbed up to locked gates at property boundaries. We did have some
fun in the shaded areas of the creek that still had water running
through it.
After we mounted back up, we headed for some dried up mud pits
to do some climbing on.

Travis and TJ were a great addition to the group
|
After Marty and some other riders in our group
showed up, we settled in for the evening and enjoyed a nice dinner. We had
nice grass to camp on thanks to the sprinkler system at the park. We had a
nice fire going by dusk and went for a great night hike led by my
co-driver, Ranger Alex. Alex and JB also spent the night out on the tarp
at 'Camp America' and only sighted one raccoon raid during the night.
