| Mini Rubicon: Contestant #1
Mark decided to take on the mini Rubicon obstacle
and we all went to watch his progress. Mcfly got him lined up on the rocks
and he was off. Things went well until the half way point where he got
into a hole and pivoted to the right. Off his line with no place to go, he
had to drive out, over a bolder. While exiting, he blew a hole in his
sidewall, blowing the bead as well.

While
Mark didn't do so hot, Bob from Tacoma Territory entered from the
other end with his straight axle equipped Toyota. One truck length in,
I wondered if he had long travel driveshafts because I could see a lot
of spline.... |

Jose decided he was going to drive across with
no spotter and just 33's. He got hung up until his Angelo from the Big
Boys 4x4 club showed up with his beast and pulled him out with the
rear mounted Warn M15000. It turns out that the tow out was brutal.
Both driveshafts were dented and bent and there was a massive hole in
the differential cover. He taped a rag to it, got a pint of gear oil
from Bill and called it good. |
Mini Rubicon: Contestant #2
Brad was up next in the mini Rubicon. Having an automatic transmission
was a real advantage, as we would see. Dave took spotting duties and Alex
and I watched for clearance.
 |
Success! Brad makes it through with few
problems and only hits his rear bumper once or twice. Excellent
teamwork! |
Mini Rubicon: Contestant #3
After watching Brad breeze through, Ryan jumped in the 4Runner and
Dave took on spotting duties again.

 |
The less-flexible Toyota made
a show of going through the course by getting a lot of three wheel
action. Ryan made it by taking the same line Brad took. |
